Stages of cancer: All you need to know about this disease

It is likely that you may not know much about stages of cancer, and begin to take an interest in acquiring information if someone close to you begins to suffer from this disease.

This is a condition that every day becomes more common, that is why it is important to know that the stages of cancer occur due to the uncontrolled growth of cells.

Once this process exceeds normal cells, the body begins to have difficulty functioning normally.

How to diagnose the stages of cancer?

In any part of the body such as the colon, lungs, or blood, this disease can originate. And some can spread faster than others but can be treated efficiently in many people who after receiving their Cancer treatment, have managed to lead a healthy life.

After a diagnosis of this disease, the specialist will let you know what the stages of the cancer are so that the person is aware of how advanced it could be.

This condition is not static,  so we do not know if it can continue advancing with time after its diagnosis.

The process of cancer among adults and children is different. In adults, this process can last months or years, however, in children, it occurs more quickly. And it is because the cells that in childhood make up the tumors are more immature, and they can multiply more rapidly.

How are divided the stages of cancer?

The cancer stages take into account from the moment in which the first mutations of the cells begin to occur until the disease comes to an end.

This disease divided as follows:

• Stage 0

In this first stage, the doctor diagnosed the type of cancer, and cellular changes begin to occur, providing the cells with malignant characters due to their uncontrolled multiplication.

This stage is the longest and considered the “induction phase”, can last for up to 30 years.

It is often curable depending on the case (If the surgeon performed surgery or removed the tumor).

• Stage I

This stage of cancer is called the “in situ” phase. Cancer or the tumor has not grown thoroughly in the adjacent cells and has not yet spread to the lymph nodes or another part of the body.

This early-stage disease depending on the type, in adults, it can last between 5 to 10 years.

In stage I, no pain or symptom is manifested in the patient. Among the different types of cancer, the one located in the cervix, sinuses or colon, can be diagnosed through special techniques that allow them to be detected in a way early.

• Stage II

Normally, at this stage of cancer, the lesion caused by this disease begins to spread outside its location of origin and expands both in organs and in adjacent tissues, which is called the local invasion phase.

The symptoms that appear as a result of this disease will depend on the location, growth, and type of cancer.

In the adult stage, the symptoms can vary between 1 and 5 years.

• Metastasis

At this stage, cancer expands from its place of origin to other parts of the body.

Cancer cells that travel in the body through the lymphatic system or the bloodstream.

These cancer cells adhere to the wall of lymphatic or blood vessels, to move to other organs and begin their growth and development in the new location.

It is common to see that most of the different stages of cancer spread to the lungs; this is because before sending blood to other places, the heart pumps blood through the lungs.

The different stages of cancer can not only cause the disease to spread to other organs, but it can also spread to the bones, especially those located in the center of the body such as the spine.

There is little chance of cure cancer when it is spread in the bones or any organ of the body. Although treatment can be initiated to reduce, retain or retard its growth.

Many people who suffer from this disease still undergo a treatment that will help them feel better and live longer.

• Stage IV

This stage of cancer is considered as the terminal phase since it is the stage in which this disease is more advanced and is incurable.

The appearance of symptoms is much greater, so the patient is in continuous discomfort and does not respond to any treatment.

This cover turns out to be the most complicated since the patient’s quality of life is significantly affected.

The “palliative medicine” is the most appropriate, specialized in the well-being of the terminally ill.

The Stages of Cancer evolves according to several factors

There are many factors that during this disease begin to interact with each other.

The cancer stages begin to evolve and see changes in both the tumor and the patient. The cells of a malignant tumor are made up of several characteristics.

One of them is Dysplasia because the mechanisms responsible for maintaining the proper balance in the cells cannot control their division and this leads to a cluster of them.

Another consequence is that causes the cells to stop acting correctly and acquire new properties that unlink in Cancer.

The cells begin to show variations in their shape or size, which is what is known as Neoplasia.

It is also found as characteristics of a malignant tumor invasion capacity, since as there is a probability that cancer can spread to other parts of the body, using local propagation as a route.

Cancer will invade the tumor cells from neighboring tissues, or the distant spread that occurs when the tumor expands from where it originated to other places in the body, which is what is known as metastasis.
